Top 7 Georgian Apps for digital nomads

Georgian Apps

Georgia is a booming place for travel tourism, business and indeed fintech. This means that doing a whole heap of things online is made easier by some kick ass Georgian Apps.

And honestly we could list about 100 here, depending on what you are doing in the country. There are though 7 that I would say you pretty much can’t live without.

Top 7 Georgian Apps for nomads

As is classic I have listed from 7-1 in order of importance at least according to me!

Georgian Apps

7. Spitak — Learn Georgian

Spitak is a useful app for picking up the basics of the Georgian language. You are not going to become fluent overnight, but learning a few words will make everyday life much easier.

Most younger Georgians speak some English, especially in Tbilisi, but outside the main tourist areas a little Georgian goes a long way. Also its just polite and nice guys!

6. TKT — Tickets for Events and Entertainment

TKT.ge is the main place to buy tickets for concerts, sports matches, theatre performances and other events around Georgia.

Tbilisi has a surprisingly active cultural scene, with everything from underground electronic music to football and traditional performances. TKT saves you from wandering around trying to work out what is happening and where.

5. MyMarket — Georgia’s Online Marketplace

MyMarket.ge is basically Georgia’s answer to Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. It is where locals buy and sell almost anything.

For digital nomads renting apartments, it is especially useful. Need a desk, chair, microwave, bicycle or cheap second-hand phone? MyMarket is usually the first place to look.

4. Yandex Maps — The Better Local Map Option

Yandex Maps is worth having even if you already use Google Maps. In many cases it has better local information, including smaller businesses, restaurants and transport details.

Tbilisi can be confusing when you first arrive, with its hills, narrow streets and buildings that sometimes seem to have multiple addresses. A decent map app will save you a lot of wandering around.

Georgian Apps

3. Wolt — Food Delivery

Wolt is one of those apps that quickly becomes part of daily life. It allows you to order food from restaurants, groceries from supermarkets and other essentials directly to your door.

Wolt covers restaurants, supermarkets and shops, making it one of the easiest ways to get food and essentials delivered in Georgia. Great when Georgia is cold as fuck and yes they do McDonalds.

Georgian Apps

2. Bolt — The Taxi App Everyone Uses

Bolt is essential in Georgia. It is cheap, reliable and avoids the usual problems of negotiating with random taxis.

The app gives you the price before you travel, shows your driver details and allows payment through the app. In Tbilisi especially, you will probably end up using Bolt more than you expected. Generally speaking don’t trust regular taxis.

Georgian Apps

1. TBC Bank — The App You Actually Need

I have spoken about this a lot, but if you do not already have a bank account in Georgia then you need to get one. Yes Wise and Revolut are still the standard bearers, but Georgian bank accounts are very easy to set up, as a tourist, or even remotely.

Georgian Apps

And this is even if you have not opened a Georgian company – which I will cover in detail later, as well as the process for opening a bank account in the country.

Of the banks here it is a toss up between TBC and Bank of Georgia, with TBC being slightly better represented and a stronger app. You can pay all bills through TBC, including for your phone, do international transfers and even deal in Crypto.

So, there you have it! Georgia is already an easy place to deal with, but if you download these apps before you come it will go even smoother.
